If you’re thinking of joining HackPGH as a member, all you have to do is follow these three easy steps:

  1. Click the button below to fill out the membership application.
  2. Pay the applicable monthly fee – keep in mind we have several discounted options!
  3. Email us to schedule your tour and orientation!

Once you complete these steps and receive your key fob, your membership will be approved.

All HackPGH members are granted 24/7 RFID access to the shop as well as discounts on HackPGH classes and event tickets.

Tours are held every Monday and Saturday at 7:30pm. Walk-ins are welcome, but RSVPs are preferred!

dues & volunteering

In order to keep the lights on and the tables clean, HackPGH operates on a combined dues + volunteering basis. Membership dues are arranged as follows:

  • General Membership
    • Annual pre-pay: $800/year
    • $75/month or $70/month on autopay
  • Reduced Rate Memberships
      • Seniors and veterans:
        • $65/month, $60/month on autopay
        • Senior discount is for those 60 years of age and older.
        • Active Duty and Veterans of the US Armed Forces can show their military ID as proof.
      • Students:
        • $55/month, $50/month on autopay
        • Students must show proof by showing either a class schedule or recently dated student ID (using a .edu email address or showing a non-dated student ID is insufficient). Student Membership expires after one year and proof must be submitted to continue the discount.
      • Disabled persons:
        • $55/month, $50/month on autopay
        • Member must show one of the following:
          • Valid vehicle registration showing disabled status.
          • Disabled Person Placard Identification Card/Receipt containing the name of the person with the disabled status.
          • Valid Medicare Card (under the age of 65)
          • Current Social Security Disability Award Certificate, dated within 1 year (under the age of 65)
            The Board Member reviewing this documentation shall not copy, scan, or retain any version of the provided documentation. Rather, the Board Member shall view the documentation to confirm the member’s disability status and either delete the email containing the documentation or immediately return the documentation to the member.

While we collect dues to pay our rent and other operating costs, HackPGH would not be a success without the generous contribution of time and effort from our members. As such, a minimum of two hours/month of volunteering for or on behalf of HackPGH is a condition of membership.

Members can meet their volunteering requirement by doing work around the shop, hosting events or classes, donating stuff that we need,  coming to a shop clean quarterly or much more! Be creative.

Members have a three month grace period in which to make up any month’s missed volunteer time/contribution. Failure to do so will result in revocation of a member’s good standing.  If you have any questions about volunteer hours, would like to make a donation in place of volunteering time, need to make up hours, or are not sure how many hours you’ve volunteered, send email to info@hackpittsburgh.org and coordinate with a board member.
