High Performance Computing with GPUs

When traditional single-core computing hit a frequency (and power!) wall a few years ago, the solution to continue increasing performance was to start having multiple processing cores. Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) take this many-core idea to the extreme, with GPUs having thousands of simple, tiny CPU cores that can cooperatively solve huge scientific computing problems. Such problems include biological simulations determining how protiens fold, how fluids flow through porous materials like the water table, and many other large-scale scientific problems. Join us this Friday,  Jan 11 to hear a simple introduction to the world of advanced, high-performance computing utilizing common graphics processing units!

Free and open to the public! The doors open at 7pm, the talk starts at 7:30.
We’re located at 1936 5th Avenue, in the garage around back on Watson.
Look for our flag above the door.
