Tesla Coils!

Want to mess around with Tesla coils, but don’t know where to start?  Two local coilers will deliver the scoop. Mark Barlow is a electrical engineer and solar power system designer, and a seasoned spark-gap coiler and Tesla historian. He’ll lay out the rules of spark-gap coil design, including transformer sizing, capacitors, and tuning. Luke Kambic will explain the basics of solid state (electronic) Tesla coils – their advantages and drawbacks compared to conventional coils, and the unique aspects of engineering them. A couple of working coils will be on hand for demonstration!

Want more? The following day, Saturday November 10th, HackPittsburgh is hosting a class by Luke Kambic, in which you can learn even more and then build your very own Coil.  Details can be found here.

Sorry, the class is sold out, but please let us know if you are interested- with sufficient interest we may be be able to schedule another class session.

Free and open to the public! The doors open at 7pm, demonstrations and talk start at 7:30.
