Steampunk 101
Join us this Friday for an Intro to the Steampunk genre, presented by member J. Scott Hamilton (Scott^2). No costume is necessary, just come as you are. Scott himself is new to Steampunk but has taken to it like a duck to water.
Steampunk as an aesthetic has gained a lot of interest and notoriety in the last several years. Known for its iconic goggles and Victorian garb, the roots of Steampunk were laid down over one hundred years ago. Its emergence as a movement distinct and separate from Cyberpunk is only recent.
Is Steampunk an artistic style, a fashion statement, performance art, or something else? And what is up with those funky goggles? We will present on the elements and influences that make up Steampunk, and especially how it all ties in with the maker community.
This Friday, Aug 10th – Free & open to the public.
Doors open at 7pm, event starts shortly thereafter.
We’re at 1936 Fifth Avenue, in the garage around back (on Watson).
Look for our flag over the door.
