Fri – Inkscape and Egg-Bot!
Join us this Friday for a free and open to the public intro to Inkscape and Egg-Bott by member Matt B:
Inkscape is an open-source vector image editor, capable of making high-quality, images that can be scaled to any size without losing quality. It’s an open-source replacement for Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW, and others. This talk will bring new users up-to-speed with Inkscape, and you’ll be making beautiful drawings in no time!
It is suggested that you bring a laptop with Inkscape pre-installed, so you can follow along and interact with the dynamic slides. Inkscape has installers for Windows and OSX, which can be downloaded from http://inkscape.org/download/. Linux packages are most likely available from your distribution (for Ubuntu: sudo apt-get install inkscape).
Inkscape is also the main way to interact with the new Egg-Bot drawing robot from Evil Mad Scientist Labs. After the quick Inkscape tutorial, we will introduce the Egg-Bot and show how it interacts with Inkscape, how to transform your images so they can be easily plotted with the Egg-Bot, and how to optimize your drawings for fast and accurate plotting. We will have at least one Egg-Bot in the shop that you can use, and a supply of ping-pong balls and ball-pit balls for your plotting pleasure.
To get you started, Matt B has provided some ready-to-go inkscape eggbot images that can be used as-is, or as a starting point for you own Inkscape/Egg-Bot fun.
Matt’s slides/presentation (ZIP) which are SVG files themselves, so you can use the instructions in them to modify themselves!
Thanks Matt!

If you want to pre-install the Egg-bot software, that would be a great idea. Here are the download and install instructions:
